About Oceanforged

Oceanforged is my five-book fantasy series illustrated by Alessia Trunfio and published by Affirm Press/Simon & Schuster. It’s available in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, with a translation coming soon in Azerbaijan. The series should be read in order.

Set in an island nation on the brink of ruin, this series follows an orphaned rascal named Cori (it rhymes with ‘glory’) who steals the magical gauntlet of an ancient dynasty of heroes. With the help of Tarn, a moody boy who speaks with animals; and Jem, an accident-prone witch expelled from training, Cori must make a perilous journey throughout the islands of Aquinta to find the Oceanforged Armour of the long-dead Champions. When the monsters are slain, the islands are reunified, and the incompetent Prime Council is overthrown, the Age of Glory will return and life in the archipelago will be peaceful again.

As they navigate coral reefs, volcanic peaks, mangrove swamps and bustling cities, Cori and her companions face pirates, sea monsters, storms, merfolk and the Prime Council’s forces. But deciding whom to fight against, fight beside, or fight for isn’t always obvious or easy. Some monsters aren’t what they seem.

This series takes inspiration from my interest in history, the natural sciences and some of my wildest travel adventures. I’ve used my teaching expertise to lower some of the barriers that fantasy’s challenging language conventions pose to young readers. It’s ideal for readers aged 8+, action-packed and epic yet approachable at about 200 pages per book.

I’m working on Book 4: The Depths Below. The entire series has been outlined. All five books in the series will be released by the end of 2027.
